Reiki

Reiki is an age-old healing treatment that uses the energy within your own body to heal and maintain the well-being of body, mind and spirit. In all forms of healing that we can term energy work, the purpose is to boost, balance and circulate energy in order to help with healing in general, or specific health goals in particular.

Reiki is commonly referred to as hands on healing, but many Reiki practitioners don’t touch at all. Rather, they hover their hands over the 7 chakras, energy wheels, and 14 primary meridians, or energy centers in the body, each of which is connected to your most important organs in the body as well.

Reiki  was developed in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. Since originating in Japan, Reiki has been adapted into varying cultural traditions across the world. Reiki practitioners use a technique called palm healing or hands-on healing through which universal life force energy is transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient in order to encourage emotional or physical healing.

What to Expect from an Energy Balance Reiki Treatment?

The ideal Reiki treatment schedule is 3 days in a row for 45 minutes to an hour, and 18 days of rest to allow the Reiki energy to do its work. On those 18 days you can do a range of meditations and other activities that reinforce the Reiki healing.

Treatment session format

Each treatment session is divided into 3 parts:

  1. Preparation
  2. Healing
  3. Conclusion

Sections 1 and 3 are flexible, and can include meditation and a range of recitations, such as the Invocation of light to awaken your energy, or the 5 Reiki Principles, which help you focus on improving body, mind and spirit.

The Healing Section

The healing section of each treatment is also usually divided into 3 parts depending on the style of reiki. For traditional Japanese reiki, those parts would be

  1. Aura healing, balancing and cleansing
  2. Chakra and meridian balancing
  3. Deep healing through focus on certain meridians, to heal organs and particular health complaints

Once the treatment has been given, meditation and relaxation can help you circulate the energy.

Rest day activities for the 18 days in between treatments

Meditation and recitation can be done in the morning before you start your day and at night before you go to sleep. This is recommended to help you improve mental focus and clarity, and promote better sleep.

Some people like to do a juice fast or adopt a clean living routine 3 days before and 3 days after the 3 day treatment, for a total of 9 days. Clean living includes fasting, eating healthfully, not smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol, and so on.
